Miss Canada Teen 2012
Alexia-Oceanne Soudin
I am honoured to be Miss Teen Canada 2012. This has been a dream come true for me. I have met fascinating young women in the pageants, each different and unique in their own way. Together we have laughed, danced, shared our emotions and developed strong friendships. Incredible moments that will be engraved in my memory forever. Indeed this experience is not simply a beauty pageant but a pageant that focuses on personality and who we are and what we believe in. Being crowned Miss Teen Canada has been and continues to be a marvellous experience. Although the pageant has ended, an incredible year awaits me. I hope to make a change, a positive change in our world.
Friendship and family last a lifetime. Both are very important to me and have helped me become the person I am today. I consider myself determined, confident and independent. In life I am not afraid of putting all my energy towards my dreams and if obstacles come my way, I simply see them as challenges to make me stronger. I am passionate and strive to fully live each opportunity that comes my way. I live everyday as if it is the last day and I value every instant of my life.
During my year as Miss Teen Canada I wish to sensitize people to the problem of racism. Today, many people think that racism has faded. However, I believe that racism should not exist at all. Everyone of us should be treated as equals. When I see or hear someone being treated unfairly simply because of the colour of their skin or because of their faith or culture, I am deeply saddened and frustrated. This issue touches me personally because I have witnessed racism first hand. My mother is a Canadian born Russian while my father is from Martinique. So for me, differences are not frightening. On the contrary, I find diversity fascinating and I am inspired to learn more.
My goal this year as Miss Teen Canada is to help children; especially those who are ill and have challenges.. My youngest brother has Downs Syndrome so I understand how hard and demanding life can be. I would like to become involved in raising awareness and funds for children who are in need.
A principle that has helped me enormously is «Working hard always leads to good results». I will strive to work hard as Miss Teen Canada 2012 and do honour to my title. I will remain strong and focused on my goals.
