Finalist Miss Canada 2022
Ashley B
Hello,
I am 23 years of age, born in Italy to a Canadian mother and French father. I was raised in Canada and I am bilingual in both English and Italian. Education and academic achievements have always been a priority of mine. I earned the Ontario Scholar Award and commenced post-secondary a year early, at the age of 17. I am now a graduate of Civil Engineering Technology and have worked as a Construction Site Inspector for several years. As both my program and occupation are male dominated, I am proud to be a female representative in the industry. I have worked with many Women Empowerment programs, I am currently a member of the Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Committee. I strive to inspire others to push societal boundaries and aim to achieve their professional and personal goals. I believe that self-confidence and determination is vital to any accomplishment.
In 2016, I was a finalist for the Hamilton Spectator Youth Volunteer of the Year award. I volunteered with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets for six consecutive years, graduating as a level five Flight Sergeant. As many as five nights per week were spent at the Canadian Armouries. Each year I participated in Remembrance Day ceremonies. During my service I was a member of the Squadron Drill Team, Flag Party and Band. I had the opportunity to hold the positions of Flight Commander and Drum Major, allowing me to mentor the junior cadets. I was able to use my voice and leadership role to promote a positive influence and healthy mindset for the youth in our society. Post volunteering with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, I commenced and continue to support low income families through donations of goods. When traveling to less industrialized countries, these donations are distributed to residents in need. These donations include clothing, toiletries, school/art supplies, books and toys.
A motto that has inspired me for many years has been, “quality means doing it right when nobody is looking”. This quote has been my guide through work, volunteering and life; reminding me to always aim for my personal best each and every time. If I were crowned Miss Canada, I would use my platform to continue to promote occupational diversity in the trades industry through advocating to youth. This can be accomplished by attending schools, holding public speaking events and promoting awareness through social media. In addition, I will continue to aid those in need; both locally and nationally, through fundraising and donations of goods.
Beauty is more than what is on the surface, it is also what is in our minds and hearts.
