Finalist Miss Canada 2021
Emi Lillian R
Hello,
Hi there!
My name is Emi Lillian, and I am extremely grateful to participate in this year’s competition!
I was born in the South Indian state of Kerala, but my family was living in Thailand at the time. We arrived in Canada when I was around 3 years old, and even then, we moved around quite a bit from the prairies of Saskatchewan to the suburban Mississauga. I can attribute these experiences to allowing me to learn and appreciate a variety of cultures and perspectives, and of course my easy going, fun-loving personality!
I’m currently a full time student at the University of Western Ontario, pursuing an education in the sciences! From peering into the microscope and counting E. coli colonies to assisting a resident afflicted with it at work, I am truly enjoy studying in the healthcare field.
I work as a personal care aid at a long-term care facility, through during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a truly rewarding experience. Whether it be learning from our ambitious nursing team, finishing our daily assignments, cracking jokes with the residents and my coworkers, each day was an opportunity to grow as a person alongside being a better health care provider.
On the flip side, I also hold interest in working in writing, content creation and marketing! Holding positions as an editor and writer at multiple organizations, and working in marketing and communications, I’ve been able to manage social media platforms, create promotional materials, write original content and complete various administrative tasks. At the moment, I am a Director of Communications for a non-profit tackling menstrual inequity in Canada, and I also hold similar positions in several clubs/organizations on campus.
My love for working for people and their wellbeing, coupled with my experience in communications, allows me to join these passions in philanthropy! Whether it be serving in the London North Centre Youth Council, mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters or volunteering in the emergency department at the local hospital, I look for ways to actively support the community with the skills I’ve had the opportunity to develop!
In my free time, you can find me deep in a horror novel, learning a new song on my flute, playing with my two pets, relaxing with my friends and family, and ordering fancy but meticulously planned drinks (passionfruit green tea with brown sugar pearls is a favourite)!
