Finalist Miss Canada 2016
Vanessa L
Hello,
My name is Vanessa and I live in Montreal.
I am currently studying for the Quebec bar exam as well as working for an international corporate law firm.
Other that becoming a lawyer and contributing to Canada’s economy and sociocultural growth, I have many hopes and dreams for the future. I believe that each of us are key actors of our society, and that the small changes we operate can and do, when multiplied, change the world for the better.
On that note, ensuring access to education for girls is something I feel very strongly about. In fact, education is the ticket to fulfilling, challenging, and stimulating careers. In these roles, women can establish themselves as leaders in the workplace and further the cause for gender equality.
Kindness is also a very important value of mine. I believe that general kindness can start with giving back to others. I have volunteered since a very young age, namely for the Canadian Cancer Society, and it is one of the ways I chose to invest my time in giving back and fostering kindness around myself. On a smaller scale, I prioritize generosity, altruism, positivity and patience in my daily life and my interactions with others.
I believe that hard work is always rewarded, and that persistence, perseverance and good faith prevail in the end. This is the world I want to live in, and I strive to exemplify these values in my daily routine. For instance, I held a job and was very involved in my community during my first degree at McGill University as well as during law school at Université de Montréal (student associations, committees, events, mentoring, etc.). There are 24 hours in a day, and I love to make the most of it!
To conclude, as a Miss Canada contestant, I plan on using my voice to encourage girls to pursue higher education and to work hard at following their dreams. In the battle for gender equality in the workplace, men and women each have a responsability. I make it my mission to inspire younger generations to perservere on and to be the change of tomorrow.
Finally, through out the Miss Canada experience, I vow to show kindness and camaraderie towards my peers, to learn from them and our adventure together, all the while being a poised, intelligent and graceful ambassador of our beautiful country.
Best regards,
